Vacation

Happy MONDAY! TGIM!

QUOTE OF THE DAY: "We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us." THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: I recently got back from a family vacation. We picked a spot that was about halfway in between my family in Ohio and us in Texas. That spot was a place called Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri.

There are lots of great things about vacation right? You don't have to worry about work, or life back home. You can relax and do nothing. You can play games. You can go shopping. You can sleep in. And we did those things for sure. We went mountain biking, we went to a water park, and we rented a boat on the Lake for 4 hours one day.

I mentioned I slept in. And this for me was very restorative. I slept great on this vacation and did not feel tired during the day or on the drive up or back home from the trip. This feeling of having enough rest was amazing. It might be also worth noting this was our first road trip. We took the scenic route up there taking two full days and a total of about 13 and half hours. And on the way back it was about 10 and half hours split over days. You might be wondering, what does going on vacation have to do with Matt's Motivational Monday or with motivation at all?

Let's just say that I generally believe in taking vacations. I believe in taking breaks from life. They don't have to be week-long excursions to another place either. Sometimes I will take a 2-hour lunch at work and go for a long run or bike ride or take a spin class downtown. These breaks are just good for the soul. And doing things that are good for the soul is almost like being and giving yourself permission to be the best version of yourself. And that is something I definitely believe in.

Of all of the things about vacation, it just feels good that I took one. We laughed, played, and made some good memories. In addition, I wanted to say I also took a 7-day vacation from my iPhone. I did not look at it or touch for the whole week. This was a great feeling as well. I felt like the capacity or bandwidth of my brain that I would have used on my iphone was free to be used on more vivid memories of the trip. I did feel more present as well.
