Triathlon Race Recap…

Happy MONDAY! TGIM! QUOTE OF THE DAY: You don’t have to go fast. You just have to go. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: On Sunday I completed the Lake Pfluggerville Triathlon. It was my third or fourth time completing this event. In the past, the open water swimming was a little intimidating. You can practice in a pool all you want. Just trust me, swimming in open water is a lot different. I entered the water more confidently this year due to my long swimming training sessions that I mostly logged in the pool at the YMCA. I did do a couple of swims at the Barton Springs pool which is roughly 200 meters from end to end. That’s a good way to practice for open water swims in my opinion. I swam the 1000 meters and got out of the water. I took a quick bathroom stop and got on my bike. My wife was eagerly and enthusiastically waiting for me at mile 2 of the bike portion of the event. This year we did the bike course in reverse of previous years. I think I liked that better. When I got to mile 2 my wife and two kids were cheering me on and cheering on all the other bikers that went by. The race does not have that many chances to see the athletes in the swim, bike or run so it was great to have this brief time with my family. My wife may moan and complain about how much I train and exercise, but when it comes to race day she usually is very supportive. The rest of the bike was fun. The course had mostly small rolling hills for the majority of the course. My average speed was 16 miles per hour. Once I got to the run, I was tired and it was hot. Fortunately, I know this feeling well. I went ahead and just took it easy. I ran/walked the run course around the lake. Thinking back to the quote of the day. I am not the fastest swimmer. I am not the fastest on the bike. And I am definitely not the fastest runner. But I set a goal. I trained for this race and I went out there and executed the plan. That’s what is so great about a race. I hope you can set a goal and reach it. From Coach Matt AFFIRMATIONS OF THE DAY: 1) I am in the process of becoming the best version of myself. 2) I can do anything I put my mind to. 3) I have what it takes to reach my goals.
